My friend's sis wants a new rig, and tonight Im toying with the idea of handing her my current parts (mobo, CPU, RAM, one of my 550BE, and a spare DVD burner I have) so the only thing she would really need would be a PSU, cheap GPU and a case. I'd buy cheap stuff for her and pocket the money. With that money I could do i7... you know, to make better use of my water loop Dont take me wrong Zorch. I love that setup you sold me, especially the blinky RAM (My father couldn't believe it was my RAM, LOL), but I could take some more CPU speed. An i7 would love water too... and while the 550BE runs nice and cool under water, it just doesn't touch an i7 power-wise, and the extra overclocking margin isn't there (at least I haven't found the way to clock it higher than air while keeping it stable). So yeah, if anybody knows of a cheap i7 D0 + half decent mobo (dont need anything specific about it, just that it OC well) and 6GB of RAM combo, I would be happy.

Someone on EOCF has a brand new Gig X58A-UD3R mobo for $140+shipping. Hands down best mobo you can get under $250. I would get it and sell my EVGA if the xfire setup wouldnt block the PCI slot. Im sure one of us could make a microcenter run for a $200 920 (well I cant, cause they wont sell me anymore CPUs ) For ram just check around hardforum, and Im sure you would find some.

Thanks, found that thread, PMing the guy. What about, if for x reason I can't, what about a FlamingBlade GTI? It would end up around the same price as the UD3R and that's not even taking the MIR into account. It might not have as many features but 3xDDR3 and two PCI-E is all I really need. Oh and, as long as it OC around 4GHz (actually a bit higher since I have water, more like 4.2 with HT) I would be happy, really. I could order the FB-GTI along with the girl's other stuff so I would actually save in shipping. For the CPU, @dmin on EOCF has a few handpicks for like $225 shipped if I remember, but worst case he wants to charge me more to send it to Canada. Else it'd be around the same price from a Microcenter. And for the RAM Ill give [H] a look, havent found much in the first 3 pages or so at a really quick glance.

Its newer and will last longer having SATA3 and USB3. Also, the Foxconns are far pickier with ram. If you cant get the one on EOCF, Id just get a new one, since its only $20 more then the Foxconn. Either will OC fine, but the Gig doesnt have the BCLK wall like the Foxconn does, which you should be able to break if you turn off HT for benching super pi or whatever. For the CPU, it would be about $220 at MC after tax, plus Im sure whoever went would want some gas money unless they have another reason to go. So used is probably better/cheaper. At [H] just go to the FS section, and search 6Gb and you should find something. Techpowerup I know has a bunch listed.

Yeah, blinky RAM does rule, there's no doubt about that! I love mine too.
But hey man, you don't have to explain to me why you'd like to go i7. (Hint: I own one.)
Hell, if they hadn't just released the 890GX chipset, I'd buy the dang thing back from you, though! That is a very nice rig, and would be a fantastic #2 rig for me (after my i7, of course). But there's all of the stupid shipping back and forth from Canada. Would you just hurry the eff up and move here already?!? All of our hardware trading would be so much simpler, and you'd certainly save a ton of money. And it'd be awesome if you could be in the Circle of Reselling that we have going on around here with me, Cecil, and AMD_Fan. It's always nice to know you might have a shot at buying back some of your stuff at a later time.
Anyway, good luck on your hunt for i7, man! They do rock the house, there's no doubt.
Oh, and the MicroCenter thing isn't really a "juicy story." They just have a one-per-customer limit for each of their discounted CPUs. I've already bought my 920, and Cecil has gotten his family and friends into the act and has ended up with several. But we've both more or less exhausted our quota for i7 920 chips. If there were some way we could convince AMD_Fan to buy one for you, I am pretty sure he hasn't bought any Intel CPUs lately! We could probably talk him into it if we pointed out that the Intel CPU would be deported to Canada!
EDITED TO ADD: If you did go with a Foxconn mobo (which I have never found the BClk wall on), then I can at least recommend two types of DDR3 that work excellently in it: The Corsair XMS3 that Cecil has would be great, or you could get some of this wicked-awesome Mushkin Enhanced Redline stuff that I have, with 6-8-6-24 timings at 1600MHz! And of course another option would be some more blinky goodness... my Flaming Blade loves the Tracers!!!

Thanks on the pointers Cecil. I'll see if I can get the money, if I can, it'd be freaking nice. My girlfriend is going to be mad, but oh well I'd end up making probably as much money by buying new parts. I'd just need to find back my 1366 mounting kit back for the GTZ I found the plate recently but I think I lost one or two screws, and the u-clamps to fix the screws to the plate so they dont fall.

Couldn'T find much RAM that was not overpriced on [H] today, EOCF has nothing worth looking and the same goes for OCn. NewEgg.ca has new stuff for like $170 for 1600 kits, and Im not a fan of OCZ's memory but they got a $175 Gold kit that has a $30 MIR. It's hard to beat the price, lowest used RAM I found today was $150 shipped to the states. Sucks to live in Canada, really. As I already told Vengeance... if it wasn't for the girlfriend, I'd go down here

What about a P6T SE? There's one not so far, guy asks $190 (CAD), I could negociate the price, considering it sells for $205 brand new and $155 open-box, and the fact that it's used, I'd ask $160-170, and Id drive to get it.

Hmm, just e-mailed the guy, it's fresh back from a RMA as the previous board had a defect. He says he never used that one since it's back.
In case the Gigabyte deal fails (I PMed the guy but he havent read it yet, even tho he logged on since), is it worth taking a look, and if so, how much should I ask?
