For my software development class, those of us who bring our own computers have basically had to install linux in one form or another in order to use the new c++ 0x standard.

I have ubuntu as a dual boot on Newtop, and I must say, I love it! Super simple to use, although I haven't gotten the hang of installing programs yet. Thinking of putting it on Bigtop as well, I'm enjoying it that much.

I am a huge Ubuntu fan! I have it on an external USB HD so I can plug it in and run it on any PC!

There is actually a ton of great software at your finger tips! Just go up to the "Applications" tab and at the bottom you should find "Ubuntu Software Center"

You can browse through tons of software and install it with a click of the mouse. I highly recommend Wine. It will allow you to run windows apps within ubuntu.

Anyway I am still very Nubish to Ubuntu, but I am with ya I think its an absolutely awesome OS, I haven't played much with the desktop version, but I have been running the server in shell with webmin for some time.

I have to say, every time I boot my laptop, it always seems to boot into Linux now. That's wierd. ;)

I like it so much so far, I think I've booted into windows, maybe 4 times? So while it's now a 4 month old windows installation, it's still perfectly 'pristine.'

It's far more usuable than I always thought it would be!
