Okay, first off, welcome to Overclockt.com!
We want to make the rules as painless as possible for everyone. Because the whole point of this is to have fun, right? So I'm going to leave the rules rather general.
In effect, what we ask is that you behave like a grownup when you come here, at least to the extent of showing common courtesy. If I have my way, the only firm rule I would like to ever have in place is The Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
If people let us keep it that way, then we will be only too pleased to do so. And that applies to everyone, including the admins and mods. In keeping with the Utopian concept that spawned the idea for this site, we want to make it clear that we are just a bunch of guys enjoying getting the most out of our computer hardware. Obviously, the administrators have the ability to control what goes on here, but we don't need any fawning admiration or to have our egos stroked. We don't know everything, so if you know something we don't about a topic, we encourage you to say so! Just be friendly and not a jerk. Fair enough?
Now, a few simple guidelines that I would like to suggest:
1) There's no point in trashing somebody's rig, so if you have ideas on how someone might improve theirs, there's no reason you can't offer ideas in a pleasant manner.
2) We'd prefer that posts don't come laced with f-bombs all over the place. The occasional bit of adult language here and there is not going to be the end of the world, but please keep it within reason.
3) Trash-talk is fine, especially in the bench threads. But it's going to be more fun for everyone if that is done in a spirit of camaraderie, rather than serious insults. A little bulletin-board material can be great for keeping the competition sharp, so let's do it right.
4) If someone is trying to learn or figure out a problem, please don't bother contributing "RTFM." It's safe to assume that idea has already occurred to that person, so please be nice enough to either offer some useful advice or stay out of it. We were all new at this once, and it's not hard to remember how that felt.
This section will be updated as needed, but that's about all I really have to say about it right now. I hope this is all I ever need to say. So in the meantime, we are looking to be as inclusive as possible. The more the merrier.
Let's have some fun!!!
